A Book Blog

About the Blog

I (Steph) started this blog years ago… before kids, before the pandemic, before I got married, and before I got a mortgage. I wanted to share all about my travels. At the time, traveling was my priority. My husband (then long-term boyfriend) and I weren’t sure if we wanted kids. We were in our early twenties with barely any responsibilities (I mean besides a job, rent, and bills… but hey, now that seems like barely any responsibilities). And we did travel a bit for a couple years. We moved to different states because of work. It was a lot of fun, and honestly, my kids probably will never believe that their parents were ever that fun.

And then one day it hit us that wow, we really want kids. Two hard years later (one year of trying, a miscarriage at 7 weeks, 9 months of getting my hashimoto’s hypothyroidism under control, then finally getting pregnant again), we had our son. And a big surprise – 9 months after that I was pregnant with our daughter. So here we are with 2 under 2, a mortgage, and hardly any free time. OK, no free time because even as I write this I’m holding a sleeping 3-month-old.

So anyway, the point of my rambling is that my priorities changed and so did what I wanted to share. I also decided to share this endeavor with my best friend since 1st grade — Emily. Here you’ll now mostly find posts about books with maybe occasionally some recipes, travel adventures, product reviews, favorites, DIYs, coffee chats, and basically whatever we’re into at the time. We’re flying by the seat of our pants here!

Stay tuned… And please always feel free to say hi!

About Stephanie

I’m a 28 year old mom of 2 under 2. I love reading, iced coffee, and watching too much reality tv. I have a planner, pen, and stationary obsession. I don’t sleep nearly as much as I should. I love Christmas decorations and Christmas lights and lowkey wish I could keep them up year-round. I hate wearing shoes. I’m usually fairly shy and quiet – unless you get me talking about books then I will talk your ear off.

So that’s basically me in a nutshell. If any of that sounds appealing, then feel free to stick around and become besties 🙂

About Emily

I’m an over-thinker, imposter at adulting (I mean really, it’s a scam that taxes are so complicated), and I’m flying by the seat of my pants as a mom. I mean, we all are right? Right?! As a mom of a toddler and a baby, I perpetually live in comfy clothes and messy ponytail, sipping my lukewarm coffee. I’m a baker, love bingeing tv, and obsess over a good video game like Stardew Valley or Spider-Man.

It takes a lot for me to be interested in something, but when I’m hooked, I go all in. I stopped reading for about 10 years after being burnt out from freshman year of college. Looking for a way to pass all my ample couch time once I had my second baby, I started reading books again. A couple months, 30 some books later, and I’m still going strong.

A perfect Saturday morning would be trying a new coffee shop with my husband – iced coffee in one hand, pastry in another, served with a good dose of people watching.

Wowww! I thought this was going to be a light, fun read like JVN’s persona on Queer Eye. I was so wrong in all the best ways! This was deep, emotional, heartbreaking, and beautiful mixed with JVN’s usual fun and witty comments. I highly recommend this book.

I've heard so many good things about this book - plus I read Lock Every Door by Riley Sager last year which was fantastic - so I'm really hoping this book lives up to the hype. We're heading into Fall which always makes me want to read some creepy thrillers (even though I'm a big baby that gets scared SO easily). I also talked my husband into reading it with me (!). We rarely read the same books because we typically like different genres but it's always a fun time when we do. I love discussing books with him (the downside being when he shits on a book I love... but i still love him anyway even if he sometimes has poor judgement).

#bookreview ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I decided #bookreview ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I decided to read this book after seeing it be referred to as “the adult Harry Potter”. Harley Merlin starts out much like Harry Potter... a girl who lost her parents as a young child has some extraordinary abilities that she just doesn't fully understand. The big difference... Harley Merlin is an adult. She's currently working at a casino using her abilities as an empath to help catch cheaters. But soon something CRAZY happens and Harley is thrown into the world of magic... a world she had no idea existed. And of course, the big villain is out for none other than new magical Harley Merlin, but things don't always seem to work out in Harley's favor. There's magic, monsters, and covens... what more could you want?

Let me start off by saying, I did enjoy this book and have read up to book 6 in the series already (out of a whomping 17 books in the series!) and will continue reading until I'm bored of it. The first book I think is a bit loose on what is going on. The magical world isn't quite developed yet and there's a lot of questions that need to be answered. A lot of the characters didn't become relatable and likable to me until the 2nd and 3rd books. I find Harley a bit frustrating in the same way I found Harry Potter frustrating (stop trying to be the single-handed hero!). I would recommend this book to Harry Potter lovers, with the disclaimer that it isn't the adult version of HP. It's another book about magic that follows a VERY similar recipe as HP.
PS. - Someone else please tell me that you think Wade sounds dreamy too..!?
